THE ORGANIZATION: World sports leaders, Hockey Canada is the governing body for hockey in Canada and a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), with a membership through its 13 provincial branch associations of over 700,000 players, coaches and officials. Hockey Canada is a not-for-profit organization that creates leading-edge hockey development programs for its members to deliver in communities across Canada, provides consistent rules and regulations and various other membership services from coast to coast, manages numerous regional, national and international hockey championships and events, and leads the operation of all teams that represent Canada in international hockey competition. Hockey Canada’s mission is to “lead, develop and promote positive hockey experiences”.


• Translate materials of various levels of complexity on different aspects of the organization from English to French and on occasion from French to English; Materials such as, but not limited to: o News releases o Publications o Request for proposals o Web features o Scripts o Player and staff profiles o Brochures o Manuals o Social media • Maintain communication with Hockey Canada departments to obtain additional information and background to ensure accurate translation 2 • In collaboration with the Manager, Translation/linguistic services, research and maintain consistency of terminology throughout the organization • Proofreading of documents or materials • Other linguistic services as required

ESSENTIAL SKILLS: • 1 to 3 years of practical experience as a translator, preferably in the sports field • Emphasis on English to French translation skills, but able to translate from French to English on occasion • Bachelor degree in translation • Must have the ability to work from a home office • Knowledge of basic computer software platforms (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and ability to learn to use new tools • Strong hockey knowledge • Strong written and verbal communication skills both in French and in English • Must be able to take direction from numerous people, work under pressure to meet tight deadlines, and handle numerous projects simultaneously • Strong concentration and organizational skills • Superior record keeping skills as well as attention to detail are also required • Availability to work evenings, weekends and statutory holidays during hockey events
