Registration Opens for International Conference on Medical Interpreting January 2013 Miami Beach, Florida US The International Medical Interpreters Association is pleased to announce that Guadalupe Pacheco, Senior Health Advisor to the Director Office of Minority Health Office of the Secretary, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is the keynote speaker and will speak on the revised US Standards on Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) as well as the National Stakeholder Strategy for Achieving Health Equity. "The 2013 IMIA Conference will provide a forum to hear national and international perspectives on the emerging practices of providing quality interpretation services to a growing global village," said Guadalupe Pacheco. The theme - Specialized Interpreting: Getting Beyond the Basics and Exploring Quality Interpreting for Multiple Medical Specialties - reflects the in-depth level of skills and knowledge required of professional medical interpreters. Over 60 workshops, multiple panels and round tables will further explore this topic among many stakeholders in the field. This is the largest event on medical interpreting worldwide.
